If you have family who can teach you then that's definitely awesome- my mum will be here and successfully breastfed all of us, so I'll be counting on her too! I didn't realise how much reassurance I needed that it would probably be fine, and I would say 95%of the class focused on that rather than problems, but it was only one 3 hour class.

I've ordered a massive double electric pump, but only because it's free with our insurance. I'll be at home too, but plan on having husband do one feed a day by bottle after the first few weeks- partly to keep him really involved and partly so she's comfortable with them in the long run. I'm much more confident about that being the right thing to do for us after the class as well actually.

And yes, get the car seat checked! Even if we'd had to pay for it, with retrospect it would have been worth every penny! xLornahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10025158792713376297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9043124735706669271.post-29007560948770666122013-10-18T01:47:57.414-07:002013-10-18T01:47:57.414-07:00Thanks for writing all of this, it is super, super...Thanks for writing all of this, it is super, super useful. We just signed up this week to the childbirth class, starting next November, and we have a hospital tour next Monday.

Other than that I have been wondering whether or not I should take a breastfeeding class, wondering if I really need it as you can find loads and loads of information online, my sister is a nurse, my mom says she can teach me, and that anyhow a lot of it depends on the baby itself and is kind of *led* by him and that freaking out / worrying about things that have not happened yet is not the way to go for my anxious self.
We have a very similar boutique / breastfeeding support center over here, they even let you "rent" the baby carriers for a few days to see if they suit you and then you can either return them or buy them. And their main activity is to support breastfeeding moms, they did seem very grounded, friendly and knowledgeable. Knowing they are there for consultation if a problem should arise is good... and well, I think our childbirth course includes some breastfeeding basics so we will decide after that, I guess. Their courses are 4 nights of 1h30 sessions only on talk about the boobs, so I am not sure if that's a lot. I also have no idea if I will need a pump or not, since I will mostly be staying at home, but what if I am producing a lot of milk? Or what if I need to express, you can not really know in advance can you?
As for the car seat, wow! That is such a great service, but those statistics are very scary. We have Halfords in the Netherlands, so I will check if they have such a service (once we have the car seat) or will also otherwise check with the police here.
